sumTraits workflow

Description:

The sumTraits workflow annotates phenotypic traits for entire microbiomes and summarizes them at the community-level. It ingests taxonomic profiles from widely used taxonomic profilers, aligns features to NCBI and GTDB taxonomy, and enriches them with metaTraits trait data to compute trait prevalence summaries across taxa.

Analysis steps:

  • Profile parsing: detects the originating profiler format (e.g. mOTUs, MetaPhlAn, Kraken) and normalizes taxon abundances.
  • Taxonomic mapping: links each taxon to NCBI or GTDB identifiers so traits can be looked up consistently.
  • Trait enrichment: fetches the relevant metaTraits annotations for every matched taxon.
  • Trait summarization: aggregates votes across taxa to report community-level consensus (e.g., abundance of oxygen-tolerant members).

Upload a taxonomic profile:

Files produced by mOTUs4, MetaPhlAn4 or OTU tables with compatible taxonomy (NCBI or GTDB R220) are accepted as input.

Note: Keep the original taxonomic profile headers unchanged, as modifying them may prevent successful parsing. Maximum file size: 10 MB
